I’ve just learned via this thread on the Spooks Forum that the Australian DVD release of Season 8 is available for pre-order now at the ABC Shop. According to the ABC shop website S8 will be available on November 3rd, 2010.
Whether the Australian DVD release of S8 will contain extras or not remains to be seen. The Australian DVD release of series 7 did not contain any of the extras that UK fans enjoyed. Consequently I won’t be placing my order at the ABC Shop until extras have been confirmed. I love the ABC (Australia’s publicly funded broadcasting corporation, like the BBC in the UK). It is my heart felt preference to support the ABC with my dollars when I can – but if the Aussie DVD is without extras again I’ll be taking the only course of action a fantragic fool can – I’ll be buying the UK DVD version. I’m a Spooks geek, I need extras damnit!
With the S8 Aussie DVD release date now confirmed, the race is on to see if the ABC will start broadcasting season 8 of Spooks before they put it on their shop shelves. We’re waiting ABC, we’re waiting. The Spooks Fan Blog gets loads of google traffic from the search words ‘spooks abc australia season 8′ and ‘when will spooks 8 be shown in australia?’. With the broadcast of series 9 in the UK now imminent, the race is also on to see if Spooks 8 will start being shown in Australia before series 9. Not looking very likely at this late stage. For shame, ABC, for shame!
P.S… I’m now back online (obviously) and regular SFB programing will resume from here on in. I’ve been rewatching season 8 during my week away from the interwebs and will be writing a few posts on the series in the lead up to the broadcast of series 9 in the UK. Stay tuned!

I spoke to Marketing at Auntie and apparently Spooks 8 is listed, but not yet scheduled.
If the DVD is due to be released in November, some clever marketing type will schedule programming so that the DVD has the best possible chance of sales!
Gruen Transfer advice?
Thanks for the intel, Prue! Some folk are speculating that they will show series 8 and 9 back to back. I’m not hopeful, though.
Well episode 4 last Saturday was well over an hour late, because of the Victorian State election. It was scheduled to start at 11.25, 3 hours later than usual, but ran 1 hour 15 late anyway! So trying to record it didn’t work.
How does one complain to the ABC?
Hi Lyn, the episode is on iView, so you can catch it there!

Yes Skully I know. Unfortunately I’m in rural Vic and our download service isn’t good enough for iview.
I tried to put a comment on the ABC forum but it wasn’t displayed (it is such an unweildy forum!!). So I guess I’ll just have to accept that I missed it.
