Spooks Season 10: Latest Intel April 2011
Filming for the next series of Spooks has been underway for over a month now. A press release from the Spooks team published on Ian Wylie’s blog reveals that there are a few changes in store for section D. Series 10 will comprise six episodes instead of eight. Unfortunately Sophia Myles, who played Beth Bailey, has left the show, but Dimitri, Tariq, Ruth and Harry will return, along with Simon Russell Beale as the home secretary. A host of new actors have joined the production, including Lara Pulver who played Guy of Gisborne’s sister in Robin Hood. Laura Pulver is a fine actor so I’m sure she’ll be a great addition to the grid. I don’t know about you guys but my feeling is that season 10 of Spooks may be the last (which means something BIG for Harry’s character). BBC/Kudos are remaining tight lipped on this.
A side note on Lara Pulver’s character, I have to admit that the description doesn’t impress me too much: “ambitious, hungry and determined to make her mark”. It sounds like the archetype female character in crime drama that I criticised here. Obviously it’s way to early to be making that kind of judgment, but I do hope we continue to see unique and interesting female characters in the next season. I haven’t written about this here on the blog yet but I think there were too many “female in mortal danger” story lines in the last series. I’ll muse on that some other time.
So, is this the end for Harry? For Spooks? What are you predictions for season ten?

There will never ever be another Ros or Jo and as I hated the character of Isabel, Guy’s sister, and as the description above sounds almost the same, I can’t imagine I’m going to like the way this series is heading. And as for Harry’s potential denouement, I can’t bear it.
Life has been crazy hectic, so I’ve been away from the blogosphere for a very long time. I just clicked on and learned that Spooks 10 has already been shooting. Oh my goodness, I’m so behind on this stuff!

I am sorry to hear that SM has left the show :( I loved her character and felt she brought something fresh to it. Who the heck is going to be section chief? Too many newbies I say!
As for Lara Pulver’s character…I thought she was still on True Blood, no? Have to say, her character sounds a bit Roz-ish to me. Been there, done that. (and her casting reminds me of how small the UK acting crew is :))
6 episodes does not a series make…yeah, doesn’t look good for the series. I think it’s about to get the axe!
I quite like Laura Pulver in RH3. But this sounds like a reprise of Isabella Gisborne. Much less like Ros. Just some female spice to the series.
If this is really to be the end of the Spooks series, mourn an way-above-average TV drama. Despite a few stumbles, in the past, it managed to recoup its integrity.
If finished, whither Harry? Obviously finished. Can’t proceed without PF. Scenarios buzzing in the mind, and they DO NOT involve deep-fat fryers, OR mega bomb blasts…
I don’t really expect anything special anymore from Spooks (and I agree that it looks like the final season.. I think it jumped the shark a while a go)
Only just got watched S9 finale (yay!!!) and while I regret Sophia’s exit (Ruth’s and Beth’s character development were the only two things I was looking forward to.. btw – I wonder how they explain her leaving… back to the private sector?) I think Lara Pulver will fit in nicely.. despite being a villain, I quite enjoyed her Isabella and I think she can pull of the ruthless spook thing quite well..)
We’ll see.. I will definitely watch S10.. though not as eagerly await it as some other seasons (or shows).
Ya, I definitely think this is the last series of Spooks. An interview with ‘Harry Pearce’ a few months ago referred to S.9 as the penultimate series…Plus six episodes and Harry potentially on the chopping block? Doesn’t look good. It’s too bad because, with the exceptions of a few stray storylines, I enjoyed Spooks much more than your average television show. But, a good show also needs to leave the screen gracefully before the ratings tank.
As for the ending, I’m hoping that one of our favorite characters (well two in this case) might get some sort of happy ending. Harry gets the boot but Ruth and he decide to finally make it official, and ride off into the sunset together. Now, wouldn’t that be a twist for a show that basically kills off all its leads (or à la Zoe, sends them off in exile)? Yes, I know I’m a sap but have been re-watching all the older series and got to watch Harry and Ruth fall in love all over again so it would be great if they managed to find a bit of happiness in all this death, danger and intrigue.
Anyone know why SM has left the show? Other project or something?
I have doen the same, watched series 1-9 back to back and watched ruth and harry grow. Love them, want them to be happy but dont think they will, I think Harry is going to be introuble this year x

They were filming on March 26th at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel. We came out of the entrance and all the signage to the hotel was in German, and an old Czech car parked outside!

Really disappointed it is only going to be a 6 show series. They need another strong male lead to lead out the group, in the vein of lucas or adam. Any news on the airing dates yet?
Hi Dan, as far as I know Spooks generally airs around late September, early October. So one presumes the same will happen again this year.
I would just like to say that if they don’t work a royal wedding episode this 10th series, then I’ll be severely disappointed. Of course, it’s all contingent upon whether the writers can resolve the Harry storyline in time, but I mean, the whole event is ripe with fantastic storylines…
1. The magnitude of the security operation – would make for some stellar conflict (and dialogue!) amongst all the different parties involved.
2. Pomp, pageantry and parties…Britannia style – get the team out and about…and in some evening wear? Yes, please.
3. April 29 = Ruth’s birthday. C’mon! That’s (to borrow a phrase from Peter Firth) “too delicious.”

I’m sad to see Sophia Myles go, but look forward to Lara Pulver. However, I’ll be waiting to see this one until I can view it legally. How nice not to have to spend this whole summer worried about avoiding spoilers! :)
I’m so sad that Armitage left. I thought that his character was very well played, but I’m eagerly anticipating series 10.
I can’t wait for 10, but I’ll have to, I only have access to the volumes via Netflix. But I will be waiting with baited breath. I have really enjoyed all the volumes. Great actors, fantastic story lines.
I love all the characters but wish Ruth could be the old nice Ruth! I would watch no matter what because I love this show! If it is really the end maybe they can bring Zoe or even someone back from the dead! hey anything is possible on T.V. right. Great show, my husband and I will really miss it.
Firstly, 6 episodes is crap! I really hope Spooks will end at season 10, even tho I am an avid fan. All my fave spooks characters are dead or have exited in spectacular fashion. Only Harry and Ruth remain and I hope they survive, perhaps faking their deaths (with Malcolm’s help) in an action packed finale.
I would have loved to have seen Tom or Zoe’s return even if for just a brief stint.
cant wait for season 10, I really dont want spooks to really end!!!!!! how about bringing back lucas for one last mad fight with harry and the grid, bummer if it ends

I couldn’t stand what Lara Pulver brought to Robin Hood, she did a terrible job attempting to play Isabella who had the potential to be a good character. Anyhow, I’m very annoyed that she’s now arrived to possibly ruin another one of my favourite shows, it sounds like her character is going to be a big part of this series even though it’s only six episodes long *sobs* I really, really hope this isn’t the end, especailly not for Harry, what is Spooks without him?! Something between Harry and Ruth better happen this series also, I can’t bear them being apart any longer :/
oh beth it would be really good if harry and beth leave the grid hand in hand and go to live in a little cottage without any russians coming after them, not so many sleeps till the new season cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha that’s ok Jamesie. Ruth and Harry content in a cottage somewhere, perfect. Even though Ruth did say it was too late in their relationship for that, it must happen! I just want them to be happy!

What! are they taking the piss, 6 episodes, I thaught 8 was bad enough what are they going to do with 6. I love spooks watched it from the very begining but they may as well finish the show now, 6 episodes is not enough to do good storylines that we all like from spooks, by the time they do two 2 parters begining and end of the season their will only be 2 stand alone episodes left. WHY? cant they stick with a good thing and just stay at 10 or 8 but not 6 thats perthetic, it’s like the bbc slowly trying to axe the show so their chopping at the show bit by bit.
i hope that they bring Lucas North in for one last time it would be good to see him in it.
A friend found this blog for me. A HUGE fan of Spooks (known as MI-5 across the pond). It is the best spy show ever. The US makes crap compared to this. Spooks was compared to 24 when it first came out. While I loved 24, my love grew less as the later seasons came. For Spooks, it’s grown. The show just keeps getting better and better. Miss Ros and Jo. Dammit but that’s what makes it great.
Spot on, Steven. It’s by far the best show of its kind ever. I’m addicted, I freely admit. I know this will probably be the end. I can watch old episodes, so I won’t go into withdrawal,but nothing will ever beat the real thing. Wish there was more.
The best character not killed off is Zoe! She’s as smart as Ruth and skillful like Ros. They need to kill off her husband (poor casting choice anyway)–how about an ordinary car accident–they bring her back to take Harry’s place when he retires from MI-5, marries Ruth, but, in a twist, Ruth stays on the team.
Zoe was one of the best and most believable characters–she’s grown up now, and grows faster once in charge. She would be absolutely awesome!
Also, in Season 9, loved the character of the blonde computer programmer carrying secret USA codes–finally got some creativity coming through on a character! Nice job writers!

there’s no way spooks should end. its not been as good for a while, but the ‘nightingale’ thing really had potential
get good writers, base it on the illuminati (or something similar), throw in loads of good corporate mischief (of which there’s a depressing amount of) & hey presto – you’ve another 3 series
here is one for all spooks, who was the best Tom, Adam or lucas. Harry is great but a bit old school witch i love. when does series 10 start? been having a spooks marathon from the first series up to series 9 we have even watch the extras (saddos) did you all know ruth was in thunderbirds, tracy island is no thames house or the grid ha ha please dont end spooks
Personally speaking , and in order, Tom then Adam, with Lucas last . I never liked him somehow but I know other women who raved over him.

Well, having just seen the first episode of “Spooks” with Lara Pulver she was a disaster. Not credible. Far to glamorous and girlie for a Head of Section, albeit a temporary one. Why on earth did they glam her up so much?
Not credible that a beautiful and glamorous woman would have the credentials to hold such a position? Sorry my friend that but view seems to reflect a narrow belief about what women who look like Erin are capable of.
Hi Skully, I get your comment, but I agree with Chris. It is not that she is beautiful and intelligent, many women are. It is just the over-the-top glamming up. Her hair is absolutely ridiculous. It looks like the type of hair you see on American soaps, where the stylist is always a foot away. I’m sure she’d have her hair tied up and out of the way. I just can’t imagine she’d be spending hours a day on her hair and it just stays like that – cascading gently over one shoulder, and always perfect. Jo was beautiful and had gorgeous hair but it was somehow normal and seemed reasonable – not every hair in place.
ps And I was prepared to like her, but she is so wooden and afraid to move one inch of that lovely frozen face.
Just finished watching the season and I wasn’t dissappointed at all. Very sorry to see Ruth die obviously but they definitly have enough stuff going on to continue with another season or two.. hope so anyway!
Who is this person who says sorry to see Ruth die????? I hope she is kidding. I loved MI-5 to death from the first minute I saw it (very late in the game), joined Netflix to I could go back to episode 1. I fear they are getting ready to end it but would accept that if Ruth and Harry get together. But say it ain’t so!
