I just finished watching Episode 6. I just knew that they were going to bring Tom back and I was right!
However, to kill off my girl Ruth, preventing her and Harry from finally having a real life together…let’s just say that I am one angry Yank right now! Stupid writers!
It was very VERY sad to see Ruth go but Spooks has never done happy fairytale endings – why would they start now? The ending was true to what the show has been doing for the past 10 seasons in my view.
You’re right, of course…but it doesn’t mean I have to be bloody happy about it! The one potentially good thing that is going to come out of this is that Erin and that fine Dmitri are going to end up together (notice the hand holding?). Anyway, I’ll will be watching this episode again tonight! lol
So they killed Ruth for no good reason, but did they HAVE to show Harry look so happy just before Sasha arrives? Really, it’s just too mean. A farce. Let’s finally give Harry Pearce a split second of happiness and a glimpse of a decent future and THEN devastate him. Not happy.
But here’s my thing – why not do the ultimate twist by having Harry & Ruth happy ? I found it too predictable – I knew that they would kill Harry or Ruth. Having said that, I cried my eyes out during Harry & Ruth’s final scenes – the performances were AMAZING.
However, I LOVED the final scene of Harry on the grid, the team facing the next crisis and Harry answering the phone – THAT was perfect. Just another day at the office.
Can we just discuss the return of Tom Quinn? SOOOOOOOOOO happy to see him back but really disappointed in the “storyline” – so not like his character and I think it should have been TESSA as the secret assasin – but nice to see the long overcoats again ;)
So here’s my alternate ending in my own little universe – Tom Quinn is the real estate agent that sold the house to Ruth. Ruth & Harry retire there and live happily ever after….but hmmm who is that watching them???
@ tyme4t Actually, I couldn’t see anyone else but Tom in the role of assassin. I held my breath just for a second though because I thought the man at the door (just from his voice) was going to be Lucas North. But I knew that this couldn’t be since we saw his petrified hand in the opening scene of episode 1. haha
OK OK – I realize now that Tessa would have been more unbelievable & a stupid plot “twist” to be the secret assasin….lost my mind there for a moment.
I <3 Tom Quinn!
I’m not ashamed to admit I cried…I wore all black to work today…I’ve been cranky and depressed all day long and can’t shake it…all over a TV show. Damn, they’re good. Thank you Kudos et al. Did I want a happy ending? Well sure. Did I expect one? Absolutely not. As much as I hate it, nothing else would have worked. One tiny quibble…couldn’t they at least said “I love you?”…would that have been so very hard? I suppose though, that it must always be that something wonderful that was never said. Peter Firth and Nicola Walker are simply transformative. Both created whole cloth characters out of little bits of thread and twine. Brilliant stuff. Can’t believe it’s over. Back to mediocre TV then.
@Counsinb Do you know that I had so same irritable feelings and for this reason that I actually stayed up until like 1:30am creating my twitter account because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep had I not expressed my outrage before I went to bed! I did share my feelings with a few co-workers but in a completely rational manner; that would’ve not been the case without that tweet last night! lol
Cousino: If oyu felt the way you did then first why congratulate Kudos and why not do as i have been suggesting for ages: insist that Kudos keep it going . I have not seen the series ten but to kill of ruth simply shows how these writers don’t care. the whole mentality of this company defies logic. do they get a sadistical pleasure from endings like this? anyone like to take a guess at the rationale behind their thinking? I do hope that a fan out there will respond to me because as far as i am concerned this series has been going downhill emotionally since number eight. I was at one time thinking of joining M.I.5 but the life expectancy of agents has made me think twice. Can anyone out there explain the people at Kudos? Now if all of you had joined me………
Well James, I can feel that way just like I like Romeo & Juliet but each time I see it I want to scream “don’t drink the poison!” “he’s alive!”…but that wouldn’t be Romeo & Juliet, would it? Great drama rarely makes us happy…but it should make us think. Does Spooks reach that level? Perhaps not…but it did consistently amaze me with it’s cleverness and intelligence and understanding of the political world and at the same time exhibit an ability to get me to accept all sorts of nonsense as completely believable. And…I loved every slick, ridiculous second of it. I’m not an expert on MI5, but please, please, please don’t think they were trying to present an accurate picture of a modern intelligence agency. People don’t die at that rate…the names on the wall at the end were astounding! The percentage of Section D was disturbing! Harry Pearce would have been hauled off to jail years ago! Bottom line, it’s not real…it’s just a damn good way to spend an evening…or 86. Sorry if your enjoyment of it was tempered by an ending you didn’t like.
I need subtitles! I interpreted it wrongly!
Thought I detected an upbeat for a film? Need a spy to find this out.. Touch and go!
Sad ending.. nice wrap up.
As for Tom showing up as the assassin, it could not have been anyone else. He left the Grid and opened a consulting agency – - and was in my opine the best leader of Section D. He internalized everything and hid his emotions perfectly in just about all circumstances. His voice may have changed here and there, but not his facial expressions. (And he’s too young for Botox injections).
Harry was similar in that way, that’s why they were such good friends back in the beginning. Look at Harry in the last moments, back on the Grid. Stoneface. Life continues on, as always, without emotion.
Ruth & Harry: They were counterparts of each other. In order to end the show, it would never work out. In real life, perhaps it would. But the producers had to plunge the stake in the heart of the life of Spooks. That they did.
The perfect tonic for Ruth’s death was ‘enter the Quinn’. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl as he sauntered to the gate. I also had a feeling we would be seeing him because in the first episode Sasha’s photo of Harry is him with Tom. He was my favourite section leader by farrrr. I thought Zoe might’ve popped in for a some reason, and I would have adored seeing Malcolm once more (my favourite character in spooks history).
Also a really nice touch to have Harry go to that spy memorial thing and give a nod to Danny, Fiona, Adam, and Ros. Mentally reliving each of their tragic deaths at series end.
Before the series began I imagined how it would end, and I was virtually spot on – they would end with the viewers assured the United Kingdom was safe from her enemies. Harry has been the one constant over this epic journey. Dimitri and Erin will be a spook power couple. Bit disappointed I didn’t get to see more of wise-cracking Callum.
gutted its all over.wot r we gonna do now?my final wish tho, that yank muppet who chinned r harry should be hunted down and beaten to death with a rotten fish.HOW DARE HE LAY HIS GRUBBY PAWS ON OUR MOST VALUABLE ASSET.
I am not so much into Ruth or no Ruth, but found at least her sacrifice for Harry believable, though not the reasoning of her assassinator.
I was a bit disappointed of Spooks 10 as a whole and compared to Spooks 9 found the story a bit drawn out too much. Spooks 9 had much more suspense in each episode and hooked me in a completely different way to await the next episode with impatience.
Now I gave enough arguments that you can draw and quarter me ;o)
well pleased to see tom quinn back in spooks even if it was for the end scene of the last episode of spooks, without doubt the best section leader of all,are the writers thick or what, spooks is the best show on tv,for watching intrigue and an insight into the workings of m15,even if it is fake, you get soaps rammed onto the tv all week, the story lines are pathetic, and the then you have something like spooks on tv,for a short time on tv and the writers end it all,if they are in need of some storylines i would be pleased to give them a storyline that would bring back tom and tariq and a whole other staff that could be re introduced, myself i am an avid reader of spy or action type books wrote by authors like fredrick forsyth wilbur smith and booby graham so if the writers have,nt got the bottle i hope the producers of spooks would get in touch and i would produce amain stories and not some of the sterotype ones that are portayed on the tv.
I had forgotten that Tom was suppose to make an appearance. But, he came in at just the right time, with basically no dialogue. Only the fans from the beginning would recognize him with such a brief shot of his face. I liked how the Home Secretary gave his approval to do what ever Harry wanted to do. The country owed both Ruth and Harry that final gesture. At it’s worst (which was seldom) Spooks was better than 99% of the TV in the US, and at it’s best it could not be beat. I feel like I have lost a very close member of the family with the end of the show. I hope the writers can bring us another good show in the future. Goodbye Harry and Section D. Thanks.
As an avid Spooks fan please will someone explain the return of the Quinn as my concentration lapsed at the wrong time and not knowing will cause me anxiety for some time and how will we get through the winter?

Good to see a brief glimpse of Tom my fav Sp0ok .
I’ve have just downloaded and watched Episode 6 (I’m not in UK). What a complete surprise to learn 6 was the final episode! I knew Series 10 would be the last – but only six episodes? Perleese, Kudos, what about the loyal fans of recent years; we deserve better! We’ve definitely been short changed; eight episodes – at least – would have been halfway decent!
Sadly, and perhaps not surprisingly, Ruth is dead, and Harry – unquestionably expected to be back in his office after her death – at last picks up the phone; surely an ‘out’ to continue Spooks if ever there was, and if there is a change of heart (fingers crossed) for Series 11.
The brief shot of Tom Quinn (a real surprise, and one of the team who didn’t die) – no longer on good terms with Harry – had me thinking Tom would be back in a least an episode or two of this spellbinding series before it finished. Oh, woe is silly me!
Regardless, it’s been a rollercoaster run of a knockout British series – brilliant writing with great twists, stunts – and superb acting, too. (‘24’ – while fun and fast – never got a look in. Sorry, Jack, eat your heart out!)
I will be remiss if I forget to mention the occasional ‘mood’ music – very rare and only when Harry seemed in a reflective mood. The piano in the background quietly producing the ‘correct notes’ for the scene. Absolutely ‘Perfick’.

It is indeed sad to learn that episode 6 was the final episode and final season for this absolutely brilliant show.
One of the best if not the best TV series ever.
I’m from Singapore and we usually get TV series from the US, nothing has come close to Spooks. I chance upon this series in one of the cable channels and it is currently in Season 5.
If not internet, I wouldn’t have known that the end of the series. I spent the last 2 weeks watching from Season 1 to 10.
Never knew that BBC actually produces fantastic programmes like Spooks, Torchwood and Doctor Who series as we usually get BBC – produced documentaries in Singapore.
Wished BBC will bring back season 11……. can’t wait to find out …..how the leadership in North Korea and China, India…..the new Middle east regimes affect new world order……..
If BBC can produce longest tv series such as Doctor Who series, I’m sure they can do that with Spooks. Perhaps with “Harry Pierce” retiring from MI5 in season 12 or 13 and “Tom Quin” taking over MI5 and perhaps in season 13 or 14 – “Harry” returning as the “Home Secretary” or “Prime Minister”………
Can someone recommend any good BBC series to watch?
There have been only a handful Spooks episodes that I did not find absolutely great. The final episodes were among the best of the entire series even if only for the. We learn some stunning secrets about Harry and see the man on the verge of an emotional breakdown. One moment he’s in overdrive, the next he’s all doubts and insecurity. In the end he appears his old stonefaced self but for those who have been watching the series from the beginning it should be clear that he was all emotion underneath. Ruth’s dead was an emotional moment and the appearance of Tom Quinn at the very end was fantastic. I had avoided all possibles reviews and spoilers of the final season but when he spoke a chill went through my spine. And then his face for just a second and gone. Brilliant! I too liked Tom Quinn best as section chief. Together Peter Firth, Nicola Walker and Matthew Mcfadyen really made this series. Now waiting for Spooks to run on Belgian TV so I can watch it officially ;-)
This unofficial blog is dedicated to the BBC spy drama Spooks. Created by the fantragic Officer Skully, SFB is often silly, sometimes serious, but never boring. Trust me. Join us..

So why was the series cancelled?
Good reason: They wanted to go out on a high.
Real reason: The US put pressure on the BBC for a non politically correct show, that was too near the mark on several occasions.
You decide.
you really think the US put pressure on the BBC? I mean it is quite obvious that it is a fictional spy show. Its not based on a real event, it’s purely for entertainment purposes, right? If BBC can produce longest tv series such as Doctor Who series, I’m sure they can do that with Spooks. Perhaps with “Harry Pierce” retiring from MI5 in season 12 or 13 and “Tom Quin” taking over MI5 and perhaps in season 13 or 14 – “Harry” returning as the “Home Secretary” or “Prime Minister”………
Can someone recommend any good BBC series to watch?
Will check out Sandbaggers.
Cheers
do you think there is any chance of further seasons beong made in the future? 5-10 years from now?
