Episode 10.2 Spoilers ahead, proceed at your own risk!!
What I never told you about Tariq is this – he totally reminds me of one of my ex-boyfriends! (a good one! still friends in fact). This is going back in the day to my undergraduate degree. So I have to confess I have a bit of soft spot for the grid’s IT geek. Like Tariq my former fella…

Series 10 starts oh so soon. Before it does, let’s have some last minute speculations. HOW will it end? Will Ruth and Harry FINALLY get it together? Will the Spooks finale break our hearts (and theirs)? What do you think will happen? However it goes down, it will be a bittersweet joy to see Peter Firth and Nicola Walker take the beloved Harry Pearce and Ruth Evershed through their final paces. How do you think their story will unfold?

So, we’ve had spy candy, now it’s time for some polizei candy. OK, so he (Gedeon Burkhard aka ‘Alex Brandtner‘ from Inspector Rex) is not nor ever has been in Spooks…. but the possible German thread in the new series of Spooks is enough for me to conclude that this German actor should be! Surely it’s not too late to rewrite and reshoot the entirety of season 10 to make my Kommissar Rex / Section D fantasy come true? Ok, Ok, I solemnly concede that maybe it is. But that won’t stop me from sharing a handsome pic on this Friday. I apologise for the non-Spookiness of this post, but I have question to ask; what other TV shows are you watching right now? Hopefully your horizons are broadened beyond reruns of Spooks!

Evidently my TV viewing schedule is preoccupied with Kommissar Rex while I wait for the next installment of Spooks to hit our TV screens (admitting such a fact has no doubt lost me what little street cred I have!). I’ve come to enjoy the simplicity of a TV show that has no complex character construction going on and just dedicates itself to solving a crime in each episode with some silly slapstick type humor thrown in to boot. I’m also really enjoying Kingdom, starring Stephen Fry and Hermione Norris, which only just started going to air here in Australia on ABC1.

We also have Outcasts which is about to finish. An interesting idea poorly executed, I thought. It did get better as it went along but the first episode was truly awful. That no doubt put many people off and its ratings never recovered. I’m not surprised it was canned. Other than those two I am welcoming with open arms the return of Grand Designs! In an era of boring pre-fabricated homes, this show reminds us of other possibilities. As you can see my tastes are mostly British, but I do love a regular dose of Conan as well.
What TV is tying you over until Spooks returns? Do tell!
The FanstRAvaganza continues! See yesterday’s post for a list of participating blogs. And check out the index CDoart has created of FanstRAv posts from all blogs taking part.

Although I have not read much in the way of fan fiction myself, I am intrigued by the fanfic phenomenon that has engulfed the Robin Hood villain Sir Guy of Gisborne, one of Richard Armitage’s most popular roles. Some writers who have taken part in this endeavour have even gone on to become published authors in their own right. It is truly remarkable that one man and one character could inspire such creativity and in some cases a whole new career!
But what of Lucas North fan fiction? It does not seem to have reached the same dizzying heights as those fics centered on dear Gisborne. I am presuming of course that Lucas North fanfics are out there? I don’t know, I haven’t really looked! Do you know of a few? If you are aware of some decent Lucas North fan fics lurking on the interwebs, this is your opportunity to tell me and your fellow Spooks Fan Blog readers about them (please comment with links below).
I can’t help but wonder what drives one to write fan fiction based on a particular Richard Armitage role. Obviously the character must be compelling enough to engage the writer – but given that Richard Armitage is the one who embodies and portrays the character, I envisage that writing fan fiction is also an imaginary opportunity to direct Richard’s acting talent to one’s will, and perhaps also to evoke the character of desire that he so eloquently represents. Fan fiction appears to capture an intersection between a fan’s intrigue with a character and their affection towards the actor who portrays it. I wonder which one of these two fanfic writing facets takes precedence?
In my own case I was driven to write a fanfic while in the grip on a hypomanic OCD-like writing compulsion that afflicts me every once in a while. In the usual course of my writing life I never write fiction! In honour of the FanstRAvaganza I am squeamishly publishing an excerpt from the Spooks fanfic/script I began to pen while in this state. Although initially based on Zoe and Danny (bless!) it eventually morphed into a tale of Lucas North reconnecting with a close long lost friend and MI-5 colleague “Raquel” (my own invention – incidentally a fictitious name I give to any bloke who tries to pick me up!). It is loosely set post series seven, pre-series nine. Silliness abounds!
