Well, it’s all over folks. Ruth is alive, John/Lucas is dead, and Harry is doomed! (or so it seems). Sadly my fantasy plot of Ros coming back to life and sorting John Bateman out did not eventuate (!), but what an amazing episode. Tense, gripping, heartbreaking, suspenseful, tragic. BAFTAs all round, I say!

So we finally know what Albany is. When Harry revealed the truth, the tiny slither of my brain that contains a vague (mis)understanding of genetics was really annoyed THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE! it cried. For the sake of enjoying the episode, though, I put my objections aside and went along with it. If I can forgive the unlikely containment of a highly contagious plague mimicking virus in series five, then perhaps I could forgive this. I did however reserve a space in my mind to be disappointed with the show (after I finished watching the ep) for spreading misnomers about genetics and ethnicity – fortunately, I was able to relinquish that space as Albany was ultimately proven to be useless. Hooray! That’s the thing with Spooks that seasoned viewers instinctively understand, you’ve got to put your questions/objections aside until the end, for that is when all is revealed. It’s never wise to pre-judge!
